Music Maker Workshops Ahwatukee's Premier Lesson Studio
Music Maker Workshops is a family owned and operated studio started by Mrs. Beverly Bigam in 1997. Her musical journey started as a young girl in McBride, B.C. in Canada where she took lessons for many years from a sweet, humble and enthusiastic teacher. This teacher instilled a love of music and soon Bev was considered to be a gifted pianist. Throughout her life, she shared her gift at church, schools and even at the local funeral home. She believed in the importance of music education and invested in her children having them enrolled in lessons, community bands and orchestras.
When she moved to the US in the 90’s she knew she wanted to pursue her passion and open her own music studio. Initially, she focused on providing keyboard workshops for senior citizens, hence the name Music Maker Workshops. However, it wasn’t long before she realized it was the children that were eager to have the lessons. Changing her vision to focus on lessons for all ages she asked her daughters to join. In 2000 Shelley Yakubow worked alongside her Mother after graduating with her B. of Ed. and began teaching group piano classes. Soon after in 2003 Kim Steedman left nursing and started teaching morning Kindermusik classes. They have enjoy working together and have nurtured a lovely place for learning and sharing music. They have an amazing team of teachers and MMW has become the home for many students throughout the years.
Now Mrs. B has retired from the day-to-day running of the studio but still stays in-touch and continues her passion by teaching a few adults. Shelley & Kim co-direct the studio and enjoy the responsibility of continuing the legacy of positive music-making in-which a sweet, humble teacher gifted their Mother many years ago.
