Fiddlin' Frenzy INSTRUCTOR:

Giselle L. (Banjo, Violin, Fiddle, Viola) Classically trained violinist Giselle Lee picked up the violin at the age of 12. With a strong desire to branch out into other styles, probably influenced by her folk music upbringing, she found her way to the Jam Pak Blues 'N' Grass Neighborhood Band, under the direction of Anni Beach. She not only discovered bluegrass-style fiddling, but also stumbled across the banjo. Inspired by the smooth clawhammer style of her soon-to-be teacher and mentor, Mark Hickler, she picked up the banjo in no time, practicing daily with an unrelenting motivation. Since her start on the banjo, she has won the Specialty Instrument Contest in Wickenburg two years in a row with her clawhammer banjo playing. In 2008 she was invited to join Greenwood Sidee, an old-time band in Tempe, AZ. Greenwood Sidee has won numerous awards throughout the state of Arizona including several first place awards at the Wickenburg Four Corners State Championships. The band also took second place at Pickin' in the Pines Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival in 2013 and released their debut album, Ghost Train, in 2014. In 2013 she was invited into Cisco & The Racecars where she plays fiddle and sings lead and harmony with her powerful, yet sweet and silky voice. The band has won numerous band competitions around the state including 1st place at the Pickin' in the Pines Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival in 2014. The Racecars recently completed recording their debut album to be released in the summer of 2015.Giselle is a founding member of the San Francisco-based, Americana band, Little Brother Rye, in which she plays banjo, fiddle, and sings harmonies. In the summer of 2014, she was invited to teach clawhammer banjo at the distinguished Rolland Fiddle Camp in Westcliffe, CO. She will return again as a faculty member for the 2015 camp. Later in the summer of 2014, Giselle toured throughout China for five weeks as a member of Dr. Peter Rolland's Americana Ensemble sharing americana, folk, jazz, bluegrass, oldtime, and western styles with the people of China. Now a junior at Barrett the Honor's College at Arizona State University majoring in PreMed Biology, she continues to mentor youth around the valley, teaching banjo and fiddling, while pursuing her own musical career.
